50th Annual DPP MeetingDivision of Plasma Physics in Dallas APS Division of Plasma Physics (DPP) is holding its annual meeting in Dallas, Texas, Monday through Friday, November 17-21. The meeting has an extensive scientific program, a job fair, and a host of other professional activities.
New Industrial PrizeAPS First Industry Award The first APS Prize for Industrial Applications of Physics was launched in 2008. Sponsored by General Motors and presented biennially, the Prize is intended to recognize cutting-edge technologies, and is especially targeted at physicists working in smaller companies. Philip Wyatt of Wyatt Technology Company was chosen from a variety of highly qualified applicants for pioneering the commercialization of laser light scattering (LLS).
APS Education Task ForceIncreasing Number and Excellence of Physics Education Degrees Ken Cole/APSThe National Physics Teacher Education Task Force was established to identify programs and methods that recruit students for physics teacher education programs as well as common factors that produce qualified physics teachers. The Task Force is a joint effort by APS, AIP (American Institute of Physics), and AAPT (American Association of Physics Teachers). A report outlining strategies, best practices, and implications of findings, will be published early 2010. |
